Hyderabad Kingsmen Edges Out Islamabad United in Thrilling Eliminator 2 to Reach PSL 2026 Final

LAHORE – In a match that lived up to the high-stakes pressure of a knockout, the Hyderabad Kingsmen (HK) secured their place in the PSL 2026 Final with a nail-biting 2-run victory over the three-time champions, Islamabad United (IU), at the Gaddafi Stadium on Friday night.  ‎‎

The Eliminator 2 clash was a rollercoaster of emotions, coming down to the final delivery. Despite a spirited chase led by Mark Chapman and a late cameo from Faheem Ashraf, Islamabad United fell agonizingly short, ending their quest for a fourth title.‎

The Deciding Moments‎‎

The match reached a fever pitch in the final over. With Islamabad needing a handful of runs to secure a spot in the final, Hunain Shah held his nerve for the Kingsmen. The defining moment came when Faheem Ashraf, looking to clearing the ropes, was caught by Hassan Khan, sending the Hyderabad dugout into a frenzy.  ‎

Kingsmen’s Late-Season Surge‎‎

The Hyderabad Kingsmen have become the “comeback kings” of the 2026 season. After a rocky start, they have now won seven of their last eight matches. Their journey through the playoffs has been clinical, having already dispatched Multan Sultans in Eliminator 1 before tonight’s victory over Shadab Khan’s men.‎‎

Captain Marnus Labuschagne and his squad have shown remarkable resilience. While the batting has been bolstered by the likes of Usman Khan and Maaz Sadaqat, it was their clinical death bowling tonight—specifically from Hunain Shah and Mohammad Ali—that made the difference.

Islamabad United: A Valiant Effort Falls Short‎‎

Islamabad United entered the match with momentum but was reeling from a heavy defeat in the Qualifier earlier in the week. Mark Chapman kept the chase alive with a brisk 43, including five boundaries and two sixes, but his dismissal by Hunain Shah proved to be the turning point.  ‎‎

Despite late fireworks from Chris Green and Faheem Ashraf, the required run rate proved just a bridge too far against a disciplined Hyderabad attack.

What’s Next?‎‎

With this victory, the Hyderabad Kingsmen advance to the grand finale of PSL 2026. They will look to carry this incredible momentum into the final as they seek their first-ever PSL trophy. For Islamabad United, a season of high consistency ends in heartbreak at the penultimate hurdle.

‎‎”This is what PSL is all about. The boys showed incredible character in that final over. We knew Islamabad wouldn’t go down without a fight, but we stayed calm when it mattered most.” — Hyderabad Kingsmen Team Representative.
