A Tradition of Excellence: Pakistani Cadet Named Best Foreign Graduate at Australia’s RMC Duntroon
In a resounding testament to the caliber of Pakistan’s junior military leadership, Cadet Sardar Arsam Abbas has been declared the “Overall Best Foreign Military Cadet” at the prestigious Royal Military College (RMC) Duntroon in Canberra, Australia. The announcement, made by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), highlights a momentous achievement at the commissioning parade held on May 5.
Setting the Gold Standard in Military Training
The RMC Duntroon is globally recognized for its rigorous and demanding curriculum. According to the ISPR, the coveted award is not given lightly—it is conferred solely upon the highest-performing foreign military cadet who demonstrates absolute superiority across all facets of training, from physical endurance to strategic leadership.
Cadet Arsam Abbas, a product of the 152nd PMA Long Course, met and exceeded these international standards.
“This is a testament to the highest standards of professionalism, commitment, and excellence demonstrated by the junior leadership of the Pakistan Army.”— Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR)
The commissioning parade was reviewed by the Australian Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Simon Stuart. The high-profile event was attended by members of the international diplomatic corps—including the Pakistani High Commissioner to Australia—Defense Force officials, and the proud families of the graduating cadets.
A Deep-Rooted Defense Partnership
This latest accolade underscores a robust, decades-long military relationship between Pakistan and Australia. The defense cooperation between the two nations is defined by mutual respect, knowledge sharing, and rigorous institutional exchange.
The depth of this bilateral training relationship is highlighted by several key milestones:
- 14 Historic Wins: Wednesday’s declaration marks the 14th occasion on which a Pakistan Army cadet has been declared the overall best foreign military cadet at the institution.
- 46 Elite Graduates: Since 2009, a total of 46 Pakistan Army cadets have successfully graduated from this prestigious Australian academy.
- 7 Faculty Platoon Commanders: Highlighting the mutual trust between the two militaries, seven officers of the Pakistan Army have served as platoon commanders on the instructional faculty of RMC since 2013.
An Enduring Legacy of Sacrifice
The ISPR noted that among the distinguished past recipients of this top honor is Lieutenant Nasir Hussain Khalid Selhria (Shaheed). Lieutenant Nasir tragically laid down his life in the line of duty on September 4, 2020, during an operation against terrorists in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s North Waziristan district.
To this day, Lieutenant Nasir’s name remains permanently inscribed on the memorial stone at the RMC Duntroon parade ground in Canberra. It stands as a profound, physical symbol of the enduring legacy of courage, sacrifice, and honor that Pakistani officers bring to the international stage.
With Cadet Arsam Abbas adding his name to this decorated roster, the Pakistan Army continues to prove that its training pipelines produce leaders capable of standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the very best in the world.
